Introduction to Our Weather Center:
This page
covers current St. Maarten weather forecasts and the 2009 Atlantic Hurricane
Season, which runs from June 1 to November 30. This site will give
you up-to-date St. Maarten "SXM" hurricane info when hurricanes are in the area.
This page

Background:
HURRICANE
SEASON is June 1 to November 30. If you're
traveling during hurricane season, you can check tropical conditions before you
leave by using the Weather Channel's
website. Between June 1 and November 30, the
Weather Channel broadcasts its "Tropical Update" at :50 after every
hour, as part of "Storm Watch," around the clock -- if there's anything going
on. You'll see the latest tropical weather conditions via animated satellite
photos throughout Hurricane season, including short-term storm tracks and
Hurricane Watches and Warnings. Hurricanes are rare in June, July, and
November; the peak month for SXM usually is September.

Ana, Bill, Claudette, Danny, Erika, Fred,
Grace, Henri, Ida, Joaquin, Kate, Larry, Mindy, Nicholas, Odette, Peter, Rose,

Summit Resort: Our Favorite Hotel/Timeshare in SXM
We visit St. Maarten often enough to have selected accommodations which feel a bit like home -- friendly, comfortable, and convenient. Usually, you'll find us at Summit Resort, on a hilltop in the Cupecoy area overlooking Simpson Bay Lagoon. We first went there 24 years ago on a charter. Is there crime in St. Maarten? Unfortunately the only place where we think there ISN'T crime these days is Antarctica. The crime rate is lower than many other islands. We have always felt quite safe there, but the island is not crime-free and savvy tourists always take precautions. (It's paradise, not utopia.)

Perhaps two years ago, we first mentioned "emergency medical evacuation." This story tells you what "medical evacuation" has to do with you, and why taking care of this before your next trip is so important.
First a brief personal note. In 1996, I contracted "Ciguatera" (which I had never heard of) in the tropics. I won't tell you all the symptoms (you may be having your morning coffee and a bagel), but I lost about 40 lbs in a month. Andy at Baywatch on Orient Beach later told me he saw a guy fall off a stool at a restaurant, overcome by Ciguatera. (Google it). Bottom line, I got better and am fine, but it could have been much worse....
