This page is designed to answer
all your questions concerning downloading, installing, registering, and
operating the entire series of JMB Caribbean Screensavers. We strongly suggest
you READ THIS ENTIRE PAGE to become thoroughly familiar with your software.
DOWNLOADING:
How do I download and/or buy
your screensavers?
Visit our
download page and click on the "Evaluate" link for the software you've
selected. You can quickly download and install it. (More info below.) Your
software will include several "nag" screens and it will expire in two weeks.
To get rid of the nag
screens and prevent expiration, click the "buy" link. You'll be
connected to our e-commerce affiliate, RegSoft. Complete the online purchasing
form. After approval, you'll receive an email confirming your purchase and
providing your Registration Code / Unlock Key. More on this is below.
Both the Volume I and Volume II
files are about 2.4 MB. "Butterflies" is 4.2 MB (it contains around 40
photographs). Any other questions concerning your purchase from RegSoft should
be directed to sales@regsoft.com.
I paid for software
registration but I don't have the software. Now what do I do?
Easy. Just download the evaluation
version of the software you bought from our
download page, then follow the instructions further down this page to enter
the Registration Code / Unlock key. You'll then blow away the expiration and the
nag screens and have the active, permanent, full version of the software.
Was my download successful?
Try to install the file. If it
installs OK, as it will in 99.9% of cases, the answer is yes. If not...
Verify that your download was
complete. The file you downloaded should be either Setup_V1.EXE (if you
bought Volume I) or setupv2b.exe if you bought Volume II, the FUNKY one.
"Butterflies" is Setup_bbb.exe. (You can get to this information by
clicking "My Computer" and finding the file wherever your system normally puts
downloaded files.)
Solve the problem by restarting
the download process.
Note: most download problems arise
because of telephone line static. This is not the fault of JMB; if it happens to
you frequently, consult your phone company.
Once you have downloaded the
screensaver software, be sure to keep a record of the directory where the file
is located on your PC. You'll need this should you need to reinstall your
screensaver later, or install it on a second PC. You are permitted to install
the software on a maximum of two PCs.
I'd rather buy a CD from you.
Do you offer them?
RegSoft, our e-commerce partner,
offers CDs for a few dollars extra. You'll see details when you click any of our
"Buy" links.
INSTALLING:
How do I install your
screensavers?
Once the appropriate "setup" file
has downloaded, click on it to start the setup process (same as installing any
other software). JMB screensavers automatically install in the proper Windows
directory regardless of whether you are using Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98
SE, Windows Me, Windows XP, Windows NT, or Windows 2000 Professional. Our
screensavers do not currently operate in Mac or Linux environments unless those
environments emulate Microsoft Windows (and unless they really work).
USING
YOUR SCREENSAVER:
How can I change my screensaver
options?
Open Control Panel in Windows,
then open Display, then Screensavers. All your configurable options are located
there.
REGISTERING YOUR EVALUATION SOFTWARE:
I downloaded your evaluation
version and I HATE those NAG screens. How do I get rid of them?
Just go to
download page and click the "buy" or "register" link for the software you
want to buy. In case RegSoft, our e-commerce partner, asks you, Volume I is
product ID 41956; Volume II ("funky") is product ID 42200; and "Butterflies" is
product ID 42201.
How do I enter the
registration code / unlock key?
First, we use the terms
registration code / registration ID / unlock key interchangeably here to
refer to the alphanumeric number that our e-commerce partner, RegSoft, emails to
you after you pay for the software. When entered into the software, this code
blocks the screensaver's NAG screens and blows away the unregistered
screensaver's expiration date, so you can enjoy the registered screensaver
fully.
To enter the registration ID
in your screensaver software, open Control Panel in Windows [scroll down
if you don't know how], then open Display, then Screensavers. Select your St.
Maarten screensaver from the list, (usually it's listed simply as "St" or
"Funky" or "Butterflies"), then click Settings. ["Control Panel"
unfamiliar to you? See next question.]
Under "Registration Name,"
type in your name exactly as you did when you paid for your software.
To make it easy, the email from RegSoft repeats your "Registration Name"
information. Do *NOT* type in your email address.
Note: All entries are case sensitive.
If you bought the software using the name JOHN
SMITH, you must type in your registration name as JOHN SMITH, not John Smith or
John D. Smith.
After entering your name, copy and
PASTE the registration ID / unlock code that RegSoft gave you in its email into
the unlock code/ registration key window. Hit OK and you're done. Your software
NAG screens will disappear and your software will not expire. ["Copy and Paste"
unfamiliar? Read on!]
To "copy and paste," highlight the
registration ID that RegSoft emailed you with your LEFT mouse button, then let
go of that button and click your RIGHT mouse button. A menu appears. Select
COPY. Then put your cursor on the insertion window for your registration ID /
unlock key, RIGHT click your mouse, and select PASTE. Your code will pop into
the window.
I did that but still have my
nag screens. Now what?
This happens very rarely, so
consider yourself special. If you followed our directions explicitly, try them
again with one change: instead of typing your name, CUT your name from the
RegSoft email and paste it into the "Registration Name" window. That solves this
very rare problem. (Remember to cut and paste your name, NOT your email
address.)
How do I open "Control Panel"?
Two ways. Either click START,
SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL, or START, RUN, CONTROL. Either way you wind up in the
same place. Then Select Display, then Screensavers as described above.
I entered my registration code
/ unlock key and my nag screens didn't go away. Now what?
You need to cut and paste the
code, NOT retype it. Retyping can cause errors -- for example, you can
misinterpret a capital i (I) for a lowercase L (l). Do that, and your retyped
code is wrong and nag screens stay. Again, the code is also case sensitive. If
the code is "SenSit66Ive" then putting in "sensit66ive" won't work -- it MUST be
exact.
Regarding Registration Name, you
also must type in your name exactly as you typed it when you paid for the
software. If you ordered under the name "Santa. Y. Claus" then entered "Santa
Claus" or "S. Claus" under "Registration Name" in the Settings window, it won't
work. Must be the same. And again, if typing your name doesn't work, cut it from
the RegSoft email and paste it in, as described above.
Also, if you have two or more
different JMB screensavers, each one will have its own distinct unlock code.
Using any other code will not work.
MISCELLANEOUS:
When will more screensavers be
ready?
We have three out now and at least
two more coming. Bookmark our main SXM site, join our mailing list, and we'll
keep you posted. (A link is on the top of this page.)
I've had your software a couple
of weeks and it just quit running. What's up?
Our screensavers are shareware,
not freeware. Unless you register and pay for them, they expire (that is, they
stop working) 15 days after you install them. Even then, you can still register
and revive them. Registration is cheap and it helps keep our free SXM site on
the 'net for you. For details on registering, go to
www.jmbcommunications.com/register.html "Expired" software can be revived
through the Screensavers section of the Display portion of Control Panel, access
to which is described above.
I just upgraded to a newer
version of Windows and my screensaver isn't working. What do I do now?
This doesn't happen often, but it
does happen. We experienced it when we upgraded our office systems from Windows
98SE to Windows 2000. Solution: re-install the software. Find your software
installation file (or download the eval version from the Web again) and install
it. It will recognize your prior username/password and it should work fine. If,
however, your system crashes and you must reformat your disks, you may lose your
username-password information. If this happens, contact RegSoft for your codes.
(They issue them, not JMB.)
What if I have more questions?
If you have issues downloading or
purchasing software from the RegSoft site you should go to that site and direct
such questions to them, or write them at
sales@regsoft.com.
If you have other questions, we
recommend you READ THIS PAGE THOROUGHLY -- all answers should be here.
Otherwise, write to us at jmbweb @jmbcommunications.com (but eliminate the space
before "@".) We get a great deal of mail on many subjects but we'll do our best
to answer as soon as we can. The only time we don't answer within a few days (or
faster) is when we're on vacation, but that doesn't happen very often,
unfortunately.
Where were the screensaver
pictures taken?
Literally all over the island.
Most were taken between October, 2000, and February, 2001.
What will be in the next
screensaver?
More pictures. ;)
Of what?
St. Martin and St. Maarten. The
honest answer is that we have over 3500 pictures and are now selecting those
which will be in our next screensavers. We have a lot of incredibly dramatic
surf shots but we won't do a whole screensaver with them because that bores some
people. In any case, the pictures will bring back memories, be gorgeous, or
unusual, or all of the above. Stay tuned!
