Like every other St. Martin / St. Maarten business we talk about on this
site, Club Orient paid nothing for this page. If you stay there, tell them you
heard about them on our website!
Above
photo courtesy of Nora. The "Club O" URL has since changed: now it's
cluborient.com. Photos below courtesy of
Club Orient, the naturist (clothing optional) resort located at the southern end
of Orient Beach, St. Martin's most popular.
Other (non-clothing-optional) hotels
at Orient are Esmeralda, Green Cay Village, St. Tropez, La Plantation, and Blue
Bay (formerly Mont Vernon), at the far northern end. Esmeralda's pools are
frequently used clothing optional. Of all these only Blue Bay forbids nudity on
its beach, though that could change.

Early-morning Club O beach scene. The beach is quiet, and it's
the best time of day for a long, relaxing stroll.... This photo faces north.

Come down and enjoy Orient Beach yourself! Club Orient photos.

Note that most clothing optional use is at
Club Orient, but you will see "naturists" walking the entire beach. The rest of
the beach is frequently used tops optional. If this offends you, you should go
elsewhere, but most beaches here are topless.
Orient
Beach is huge; Club Orient is a small part of it. For perspective: what you see
above is only the Club Orient chalets and beach; the rest of the beach is off to
the left.
.You can reach Club Orient by calling 011-590-590-87-33-85, fax
011-590-590-87-33-76. Another picture is below. The Club Orient website is

Getting a Lawyer in St. MaartenSt. Maarten is a rather litigious society. You may need an attorney there in more situations than you think... Stefan Van Der Berg is an attorney with Fox Van Der Berg on SXM. Here, he answers some specific questions about his firm and about when a firm such as his should be consulted by foreigners.

Jeff Berger's Review of The Best Car Rentals in St. Maarten / St. MartinTHE ONLY WAY TO THOROUGHLY ENJOY SXM IS TO RENT A CAR AND SEE IT ALL! We customarily avoid Hertz & Avis here -- they're franchises which must pay franchise charges to Hertz & Avis, so they're usually pricier than local rent-a-car companies. (Hertz & Avis are fine if you want to spend the money. We simply suggest they're not worth it. Both are in SXM, along with National, Budget, and Thrifty. Thrifty recently has acquired a reputation of offering low prices but when you get there, the car you thought you rented is replaced by something smaller and older. Thrifty in SXM is not high on our list.)
St. Maarten Park & ZooThe St. Maarten Park / Zoo is totally unlike anything in the US. It boasts some 200 animals, all of them exclusively from the tropics and a number of them very rare. Chances are you've seen few of them. Stop in and see what these are! Located just east of downtown Philipsburg, the zoo is open just about every day and is inexpensive. Plus, there's a playground for the kids!
The Butterfly FarmThe Butterfly Farm, on the road to Club Orient near Orient Beach, is a flat-out pleasure. Get there early in the morning and witness butterflies being born! Here are a few pictures.
St. Martin / St. Maarten BeachesSome of St. Maarten's beaches change shape and size according to the whims of Mother Nature. They range from places with surf (and surfers) to quiet coves that are virtually calm and deserted. This page tells you about most of the island's beaches -- including those for people who hate tan lines.
Pictures of St. MaartenPhotos of what is called the "Friendly Island" and it certainly is that, but it could just as easily be called the Rainbow Island, the Butterfly Island, the Flower Island, or the Beach island, because it's loaded with all those things.

Starting a Business in St. Maarten or Getting A Job ThereMany people ask us about working in St. Maarten. Ric Hetzel, retired former owner of Ric's Place, provided this list of government requirements... his is a very detailed list with exceptions to almost all items. Essentially, work permits will be granted only to people who offer skills or education not available on the local job market. (Of course according to the local Labor Board the locals are all qualified to be brain surgeons and/or rocket scientists.)
