Electrifying FREE OFFER INSIDE! (INSIDE PANEL COPY) How to make compliance with the EMC Directive (and the FCC and FDA) no "jolt." If you market your products in Europe, you are already aware that EMC Directive compliance is mandated for products involving emissions and/or immunity. But did you know an FCC Declaration of Conformity may also be required not to mention what the FDA wants? The good news is that our nearby, conveniently located labs are recognized and qualified as contract testing labs for Competent Bodies, which means you can have your products tested with us around the corner and it will be precisely the same as if you had them tested in Sweden, Germany, or the United Kingdom. (ITS is European-based, so we know our way around the EMC Directive.) As for the FCC and the FDA, for 10 years our people have been working with them to get products approved, which means we know our way around that process better than anybody. We are NAVLAP and FCC approved, in fact. And we not only test, we guide you through the process, anticipating FCC, FDA, and EMC scrutiny to assure that certification really will go smoothly. Our network of fully equipped labs stretches from coast to coast. One call to a nearby lab gets you access to everything you need for EMC/EMI and FCC and FDA approvals and much more, worldwide. Getting required certifications need not be a jolting experience. Call us to see how easy it can be! INSIDE RIGHT PANEL: Free! "How to Get The Best out of Your Testing Lab" With so much at stake, you want to be sure that the people testing your products are oriented toward accuracy, precision, speed and giving you the kind of competent, friendly counsel that helps ensure your products compliance and certification. Regardless of which lab you currently use, this booklet will help you get the most out of them. It certainly couldnt come at a better time! Of course, there is no cost or obligation. is a Bulletin on Immunity/Emissions for ITS.
Immunity/Emissions: Solutions to Electronic Interference
Electronic and electromechanical devices have one disconcerting trait in common: they may create electronic emissions which may affect other devices, or they themselves may be affected by emissions created by other devices. Thats the world of immunity and emissions -- a world which because of rapidly growing regulations is of great concern to manufacturers of process equipment used in many industries worldwide.
Electromagnetic compatibility is the condition which exists when equipment is performing its designed functions in a common electromagnetic environment without either causing or suffering unacceptable performance degradation due to electromagnetic interference to or from other equipment. How Bad Are Emissions? Emissions, or electromagnetic interference, is radiated RF signals which couple to cables or penetrate poorly shielded enclosures. Their effects are many:
ESD transient signals, another form of electromagnetic interference, can cause effects similar to radiated RF because RF fields are generated. ESD transients may also:
Whats so Important about Emissions and Immunity? The effects you just read are only a handful of examples. Clearly, equipment which produces emissions -- or which is incapable of ignoring them -- can adversely affect factory productivity or production accuracy, and can cause human death. In the United States, the Federal Communications Commission regulates emissions though it stays away from immunity, which is dealt with by industry-specific self-regulation -- aerospace industries and airlines, automotive, and military have regulations of their own. In Europe, tough regulations cover both emissions and immunity. Still other regulations apply to countries in the Pacific Rim. Multinational corporations which design and build process equipment for use anywhere in the world not only must be aware of applicable regulations, they also must ensure that their equipment is in strict compliance. To make matters tougher, regulations are being stiffened. Equipment designed today may not comply with regulations which will be in effect when that equipment is in operation. All of this makes the job of equipment design and testing absolutely critical, inasmuch as the salability or usability -- or even the legality of selling or using a given piece of equipment -- rests on its strict conformance to regulations in its intended country of operation. New Regulations in Europe The European Community is approaching closure on 23 new electromagnetic standards affecting many aspects of both immunity and emissions, including:
